He was born on 26th July 1874. His father’s name was Shrimant Jayasinghrao Abaso Ghatage. His mother’s name was Radhabaisaheb.
He was offered L.L.D degree by Cambridge University.
Education : Dharwad and St. Edwards School, Oxford University.
Also was offered M.R.A.S by Royal Agricultural Society, England. He started hostels for untouchable students in 1907.
Shahu Maharaj is credited with doing much to make education and employment available to all: he not only subsidized education in his state,
eventually providing free education to all, but also opened several hostels in Kolhapur thereby facilitating the
education of the rural and poor.

Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil is the founder and organiser of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha of Satara which is established in 1919.
In 19th century Maharashtrian Society was illiterate, poor, socially, economically, culturally and educationally backward and under the impression of Brahmin society.Bhaurao patil was born and brought up in an educationally backward class. Mahatma Jotiba Phule firstly diagnosed the cause of poverty and other illness of society and he worked to educate the people. After Mahatma Phule , Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj continued the work of phule. After Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Bhaurao Patil did this work.
In 1922 at Angapur, Tal & Dist Satara. Karmaveer Anna declared in primary teachers conference. There is no village without school and school without trained teacher. So I am going to start training college at Satara. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil think that the teacher who come frome Bahujan Samaj only who will change the state of Bahujan, for the roll of teacher must be as village social worker.
After this declaration, in 1935 Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil started Silver Jubilee Rural Training College for men at Satara. Which is now known as Mahatma Phule Jr. College of Education. This is the first college which is run by private educational sanstha in Maharashtra.
In 1942 Anna started Jijamata Trainig College for women which is second training college run by santha, afterwards he Started another five colleges. One of them is Shri. Chhatrapati Shahu Jr. College of Education Rukadi
